PLEASE BE AWARE - Cold callers |
||
We’ve had reports of 'Nottingham Knockers' in Hethersett- suspected fraudulent cold callers knocking on doors, trying to sell goods in the county. We were contacted twice yesterday morning following doorstep visits around Lakeland Way and Churchfields, with a man going door to door trying to sell various items out of a bag, claiming they have recently been released from prison and are trying to make some money. This is a common technique used by criminals, and residents will sometimes be met with aggression from the sellers when refusing to buy anything. In these circumstances we would advise residents to make sure their house is secure, front and back, before answering any doors and if you don't recognise the person, to consider only speaking to them through a closed, locked door, if at all. Tell them you are not interested, and ask them to leave, despite any persistence. We would always advise you not to agree to buy goods from, or have work done, by anyone who calls unannounced or approaches you in the street. Sometimes such traders are operating fraudulently, and will target vulnerable residents. If you ever feel immediately threatened by a cold-caller, call us on 999. Anyone with information about suspected rogue traders or suspicious cold callers can report this to us on our website: https://www.norfolk.police.uk/ro/report/ Alternatively call us on 101 (in a non-emergency), or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. | ||
